  • Internship Responsibilities:

    • Lead the Seagrass Monitoring Interns in field data collection activities, including eelgrass sampling, monitoring water quality, and mapping areas of seagrass.  

    • Accurately enter data collected throughout all monitoring projects 

    • Analyze ground truthing videos and create a QGIS project displaying the analysis 

    • Produce an independent research project on an aspect of FISMC’s monitoring/research initiatives 

    • Participate in community outreach events, helping to communicate FISMC’s mission and findings to the public.  

    • Follow established safety protocols while conducting fieldwork on land and in water.  

    Qualifications: 

    • A graduate with a B.S. or M.Sc. degree in Marine Science or a related field. 

    • A strong interest in marine conservation and coastal ecosystems, particularly concerning Long Island Sound and seagrass habitats.  

    • Capable of working independently and as part of a team, demonstrating a proactive approach to tasks.  

    • Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions and participating in physical activities like paddleboarding and carrying equipment.  

    • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage and educate peers and the community.  

    • A boating license is required; experience in boating around Long Island Sound is desired.

  • Water Dogs operate in and on the water! We conduct marine research and monitoring while paddleboarding, snorkeling, and working on boats.

    ACTIVITIES INCLUDE:

    • Assist in field data collection for eelgrass sampling, water quality monitoring, and seagrass mapping

    • Participate in community outreach

    • Maintain project materials, data logs, and data entry

    WORK HOURS:
    Sunday through Saturday
    Tide and weather dependent
    April – October

    Age Requirement: 14+
    Rate: $17-$20 per hour (15-25 hrs/week)
