Internship Responsibilities:
Lead the Seagrass Monitoring Interns in field data collection activities, including eelgrass sampling, monitoring water quality, and mapping areas of seagrass.
Accurately enter data collected throughout all monitoring projects
Analyze ground truthing videos and create a QGIS project displaying the analysis
Produce an independent research project on an aspect of FISMC’s monitoring/research initiatives
Participate in community outreach events, helping to communicate FISMC’s mission and findings to the public.
Follow established safety protocols while conducting fieldwork on land and in water.
Qualifications:
A graduate with a B.S. or M.Sc. degree in Marine Science or a related field.
A strong interest in marine conservation and coastal ecosystems, particularly concerning Long Island Sound and seagrass habitats.
Capable of working independently and as part of a team, demonstrating a proactive approach to tasks.
Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions and participating in physical activities like paddleboarding and carrying equipment.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage and educate peers and the community.
A boating license is required; experience in boating around Long Island Sound is desired.

Water Dogs operate in and on the water! We conduct marine research and monitoring while paddleboarding, snorkeling, and working on boats.
ACTIVITIES INCLUDE:
Assist in field data collection for eelgrass sampling, water quality monitoring, and seagrass mapping
Participate in community outreach
Maintain project materials, data logs, and data entry
WORK HOURS:
Sunday through Saturday
Tide and weather dependent
April – OctoberAge Requirement: 14+
Rate: $17-$20 per hour (15-25 hrs/week)
